Hover a word for its meaning. Glosses draw on Amir Harrak’s translations and the SEDRA 3 Syriac lexicon (Beth Mardutho), used for academic purposes.

A
(1–5) In the year 1747 of the Christian era and the year 2058 of Alexander, king of the Greeks, exactly the 24th day of the month of Tammūz (July), this brother Zakarīā was buried (lit. lost) with pomp and recitation of psalms by the priests. (6–10) May God place him at the centre of the high Paradise. This is the grave of the late kawaja Zakarīā. Mār Sim‛ān, the holy Saint, weeps over you as does the martyr Gīwargīs, for you were diligent at all times (11–13) at their service [.....] happily and gladly. They pray during of the holy service and the procession of the Eucharist, so that the Merciful One may place you in Paradise.

B
(1–5) The blessed Mārt(y) Mary, Mistress of all the women of the world, and the pious Virgin, intercedes on your behalf, for you cared for her, at the time of the construction (of her church), spending money generously. She begs her majestic Son on your behalf in invocation, (6–10) so that you may enjoy paradise with her, O Zakarīā, son of Īšō‛, whose death took place in [...] Your fire in [...] For letters came from the extremities of the country: (11–13) Tell, did he become stranger, residing in the graves, and all [...] the mourning of his relatives and the children. And lo! we wear black on account of the loss of the beloved one.

C
On high the church weeps because of your death [...] over the chief kawaja, the brother Zakarīā.

D
(1–5) Mār Ēlīā, the great patriarch and leader of the East, is sorry at all times over you. He gratuitously made you deputy, and established you over the leadership of the congregation. You had no rival [...] (6–10) at the time of contest and the settling of accounts; the year one thousand seven hundred and forty-seven of the Christian era. […] The day you come again […] with your angels, in glory and exaltation. (11–13) Raise him up through your mercy from the inside of the ground. Made him immortal in your paradise and glorious light. Bishop Mār Īšō‛yahb, the Father, cries over you.

E
(1-5) The deacons, the priests, and all ranks, young and old and young men and (16–18) children, cry over you in deep sorrow. They beg, at the time of the Eucharist, from the Lord of lords, so that he may […] with his sublime disciples […6–10 lacuna...] (11–13) Ask for forgiveness on my behalf […] perhaps [...] the Merciful One would answer you, placing me in Paradise with all of you.
