Hover a word for its meaning. Glosses draw on Amir Harrak’s translations and the SEDRA 3 Syriac lexicon (Beth Mardutho), used for academic purposes.

(1-5) In the year 1878, when we were repairing and renovating what was destroyed in the church of our Lady the Virgin Mary, according to the recommendations of our Father, Bishop Bihnām, the head of the diocese of Mosul, and as we were busy, the divine Providence revealed to us the remains of Mār Jirj(is), about which it was written (in Syriac) “Gīwōrgīs the Martyr”. We reported this matter to his Excellency, being responsible of the whole affair, 94 our leader the Bishop. So he ordered us to put it into writing, so as to make it known to the pilgrims and noted among all the Christians. (6-10) Thus, at the order of the afore-mentioned person, we wrote this declaration, during the days of the Father of Fathers and leader of leaders, the most reverend and most respectful, Iġnātiōs, the Antiochene Pontiff, our most esteemed lord Patriarch Butrus the Third, and (during the days of) the leader of the diocese of Mosul, our Father Bishop Behnam, who honoured me with this authority over the church of our Lady the Virgin Mary. And on the basis of (his) authorization, I declared my name to every[one, though not] (11-12) deserving this service, I, ‛Abd-al-Karīm Dinnō, of the congregation of Mār Tūm[ā] of the Jacobite Syrians, in the year 1878 of Christ, the 25th of Ayyār (May). (Arab.) 1878.
