Hover a word for its meaning. Glosses draw on Amir Harrak’s translations and the SEDRA 3 Syriac lexicon (Beth Mardutho), used for academic purposes.

(1-5) To the honour, praise, glory, and exaltation of the [holy and glorious church]. The church of Mary Mother of God was rebuilt and was subjected to a complete and comprehensive renovation from its four sides: The altar […] sanctuary, and the two galleries […] and the two … ruined, at the hand of skilled architects: Deacon ‛Abd-al-Masīh, ‛Abd-al-Kāliq, Deacon Nīsān and Ya‘qūb. Deacon ‛Abd-al-Masīh did not take (6-10) the wage of his work as architect but he offered it to the church—may the Lord offer him a new life 225 amen. This renovation took place in the year 1968 (of the Greeks), through the care of the Sacristan Ēlīō, who was at the origin of this matter, and through the diligence of the blessed believers, young and old, men and women, and especially women who gave their possessions and energy for this rebuilding. Hear people and give ear nations to the oppression that they suffered: 24 Qirš used to be levied on each man, but they did not give up nor did they lose vigour; (11-13) rather, they rose up mightily for the rebuilding of two churches, the present one and that of Mōr Yūhanōn. And now, may the one for whose name they performed this heroism make them inherit the heavenly Kingdom. ‛Abd-alMasīh the Dea[con] wrote it.
