The Syriac Orthodox Church of Sergius and Bacchus; Inside the church, on the wall to the left side of the altar , Qaraqōš

(1-5) In faith, (we are) Christians from the village of Kudēdā, nicknamed Jacobites—envied Syrian people. Mariam left for prosperous Jerusalem with her husband Chorepiscopos Yaldō. She became pilgrim in the year 1825 of the Lord. In the year 2154 of the Greeks (=AD 1843), Mariam the Pilgrim built the rooms around the courtyard as well as (6-10) the walls round the roof of the church. She (re)built the most important of churches, the noble church of Sergius and Bacchus, friends of the angels and watchers, and among the Saints and renowned ones. The Pilgrim died in the year 1860 of Christ at the beginning of the month Tešrīn (October or November) and was buried in this church. She departed from this world on the day in which judgement prevails and (when) (11-14) Satan cannot come close to her through the might of the merciful Father. She is a dead woman among the dead ones but (was) an energetic woman among the energetic ones—she paid the expenses for the (re)building of 265 this church. She is Mariam the Pilgrim, wife of the Chorespiscopos Yaldō, of the blessed village Bēt-Kudēdā the famous. B (1) The mouth that utters beautiful words rescues the soul, but the one which utters falsehood will not be pardoned. He who (says: May God) pardon (Mariam)—as he (says: May God) pardon (her)—he will be pardoned, but he who does not (say: may God) pardon (her)—because he does not (say: May God) pardon (her)—he will not be pardoned.
