(1) With the help of the Lord the mighty and the merciful. When the church of the powerful Lord was constituted before eras and generations, there was no church in this village, which is Bāhzānī in this region. Listen, Readers, and understand this discourse concerning the zeal of the people who built this church, when the entire congregation associated itself with love and friendship and all men and women toiled together in conjunction. O Jacobite Syriacs praise the Lord who invigorated you and filled (2) your hearts with faith to complete the church of the Lord in affinity. Your reward is much and your virtuous work is noble. It was built in the year 1884 (Arab. 1884) of Christ, during the days of our Father Mōr Īġnātiōs the blessed one—he is Patriarch Patrōs the Third who holds the See of Antioch (at) the monastery of Saffron; may his prayer be a wall for all of us through the Cross of Light; (and) during the leadership of the honourable Mōr Qūrillōs Aliās, who at the monastery (3) of Mōr Mattēiōs holds the See of the East—may his prayers be a wall for all of us at all times. Also the priest Yawsef the Priest son of Slēmān donated from his own money, worked hard, went arou[nd] villages and the city of Mosul, collecting (donations) and taking care of the building of Mōr Gōrgīs, friend of our Lord. A good man and a believer whose name was Salmān son of Mūsā rose up—and also a lady of the (same) family, Šaman— and through the fervour of his fa(ith), he stood up and grew strong, taking care, toiling and being diligent thanks to (his) gold and silver. (Arab.) It is composed by ‛Abd-al-‛Azīz.
B
(1) Antōniōs built and constructed these stones, laying them (2) in the house of the Lord with the might of the Astabros (=Cross). He shouted, saying: My Lord! (3) Īsōs Christos: remember me! Accept my wage and disregard my sins as (it was with) Tītōs.
C
