(1-5) This shrine including the altar that is in it was built new after the name of the Virgin Mary Mother of God in the year 1806 of Christ. When it became dilapidated and was about to collapse in the year 1854, the whole was built anew. It was devoted and especially consecrated in honour of the Immaculate Conception of the blessed Virgin, during the days of the honourable Fathers Mār Pius the Ninth Pontiff and Pope of Rome, Mār Yawsep Audō, Patriarch of our Chaldean nation over the Babylonian see, and the Sultanate of (6-10) our victorious king ‛Abd-al-Majīd. It was completed through the diligence of our lord Patriarch mentioned (earlier) and of the rest of the congregation of Alqōš: Priests, chieftains, and the people at large, and through their financial contributions and work. May the Lord reward them the heavenly kingdom through the intercession of the one for whose name they laboured and for whose honour they took up this charge. During the time of building, great wars that had no rival took place in the West and in the East between kings, that is to say, the kings (11-13) of France and England, along with Sultan ‛Abd-al-Majīd, battling Nicholas king of Urōs (=Russia), that is Masqof (=Prince Menschikoff).
