(1-5) On the hope of the resurrection. (2) Here is laid the virtuous ‛Abbō son of Čūnā Stēfānā. He was born on the 2nd of Ādār (March), the year 1890 of our Lord. (6-8) He died on the 24th Īlōl (September), the year 1957. My brothers: Pray for him.
AO.03 The Chaldean Church of Mār Gīwargīs
This church, dedicated to the popular martyr St George, would be the oldest church in Alqōš but, as usual, nothing survived from its ancient remains. One local inscription claims that one of its restorations was in 1681. The actual construction dates to 1906 as indicated below.
