(20-25) Jesus, heavenly shepherd, Jesus Son of the merciful One: Make our Abbot Yōhannān take delight in the bridal chamber of your Kingdom—ditto—for since his childhood he was possessed by your fear O Lord, and subjected himself to you yoke. Truly and duly, he carried your cross day and night and was burned with your passion to the last breath. O you who sanction a perfect reward for the hard-working ones, sanction for him rest and joy in the heavenly abode. He suffered blows and torments several times, as well as mockery, insults, beating, (26-30) incarceration, and blows. At the end he died and passed away on account of the torments, for he died in prison as a result of intense suffering. Our Lord: Through your mercy let him be counted in the ranks of the brave martyrs—the band of the members of your Kingdom. In the year 1842 in computation, he died in prison in ‛Imādiyya along with his colleague Mūšē the priest. They offered gifts—(31-32) their human lives—in a complete way to the Living God. O merciful and compassionate One, whose goodness is obvious, make them rejoice in your delight in your lofty abode. It is ended.
