(1-5a) In the name of the Living One, who is not mortal! In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit: As soon as I existed—I Mār Šem‛ōn the Catholicos—God the first Light I came to know. (8a) I confessed and believed (5b) in his Son Jesus Christ: (6-7) complete God and complete Man, Two Natures, Two qnōmē, and one parsōpā. (8b-10) I loved his Spirit. I paid homage to his Cross. I shared his Body and Blood. And I died on his hope that he may (11-15) raise me up. At this point, the ship arrived, settling at the harbor of rest. And here they buried me in your trust, O Christ King, so that on your Divine Day, I may see the light of your honourable (16a) and glorious (15) countenance. (16b-20) I departed from this life on the first of Latter Tešrī (November), in the evening of Wednesday, in the year 1870 of Greece: Glory to God and upon us his mercy and compassion forever and ever amen. (21-14) In the year 1870 of Alexander, on the first of Latter Tešrī (November), our venerable Father Mār Šem‛ōn the Patriarch—the one of sweet name—departed from this world of grief. May the Lord cause him to rejoice in the Kingdom along with the sons of Zabedee.
