Hover a word for its meaning. Glosses draw on Amir Harrak’s translations and the SEDRA 3 Syriac lexicon (Beth Mardutho), used for academic purposes.

(1-4a) O Living Being and Son of the Living One, who turned to life our mortal nature, saved us from the Evil and death, and rescued us from our captivity! (7b-9) The Priest Hurmizd—leader of the earthly!! congregations, who was full of desires for spiritual blessings, (4b-7a) departed from the temporal life to the abode of blessings, on Monday the 4th day, First Tešrī (October), (10-14) according to the computation of the blessed Greeks, famous among the kingdoms, in the year 1925. Christ,!! Lord of the created beings!!, has carried him (through) death from among the brothers in the village of the citizens of the Christian ‛Enkāwā.

Line 8: The decipherment of the last word (no siāmē) is not certain. In meaning it makes sense when applied to humans and it is metrical, fitting the tone of the whole inscription. Line 10: The first two words are not very clear but with the phrase “famous among the kingdoms” they must be at least plausible.
